Baie Klippe Farm
We have a micro raw Jersey dairy herdshare programme, sell beef, lamb, chicken, ducks, geese, guinea fowl, the best orange-yolked completely free-range eggs and other farm produce, like pressed apple juice in Autumn, herbs, berries, fruit and veggies.
Herbie named our farm in Afrikaans, it means “many stones” after our most reliable crop - stones. They continually pop up out of the ground, and our fence lines are all crooked as when digging holes for the posts, I hit rocks, and moved a little before trying again.
We are not, and probably will never be, certified organic, as it’s far too expensive but has very little real meaning. The only chemicals used on the farm is fly pour-on for the cows - I’ve tried all the natural ways, but they don’t work, and fly-bitten cows are just miserable. Also the cleaning granules, bleach and steriliser for the milking equipment. We don’t put fertiliser down, only manure from our animals, don’t use pesticides or herbicides. Anti-biotics are only used as a last resort for ill animals, never as a preventative or food additive, and the correct withdrawal times are carefully followed.
If you’d like to arrange a farm visit, you will find us at :
5353 W David Hwy, Saranac MI 48881
Our house is not visible from the road, it's the paved drive on the South side of David Hwy, up past the 2 houses that share our drive on your left, all the way to the top. If you map us, our driveway actually shows up as an unnamed road, we are right at the top.
